I am quite good in math otherwise but problems in proportions baffle me and I am at a loss. It would be great if you can let me know of a reasonably priced software that I can use?

Yes, Algebrator is a program that can help you solve math problems which you never thought you would be able to. It is worth putting the money in for the the purchase of Algebrator since it offers qualitytutoring in Algebra 2 and is available at a nominal rate.
